WAT PATHUMWANARAM RAJAWARAWIHAN

Location:Rama IV Road, Patumwan District

After a visit to the elegant Thai houses and Thai silk at Jim Thompson’s Museum, Wat Pathumwanaram Rajawarawihan-an old monastery built under royal command of King Rama IV for his Queen-is another nearby sight to see.

Interesting are monuments including the ordination hall or Ubosot of Rattanakosin Style enshrining the Principle Buddha image in the Attitude of Subduing Mara; the pagoda or Chedi housing the marble replica of Budha’s Footprint; the marble Reclining Buddha image from Sri Lanka; the image hall or Vihara housing Buddha images from: and the half-sided pagoda enshrining the regnal Buddha image.

PHRANAKORN NATIONAL MUSEUM

Phranakorn National Museam

Location: Thanon Na Phradhatu, Thammasat University side.

Originally was Rattanakosin’s King Rama IV’s private museum before the establishment of “ Museum for the People” in the Grand Palace and relocated to the 3 thrones at Bovornsathanmonkala Palace. In the reign of King Rama VII all the palace buildings were made into “Museum for the City” consisting of 3 sections—Thailand History: Thai Arts and Archeology: Fine arts and Ethnology. Some thrones are recognized as a prototype of the outstanding and elegant Thai architecture in Early Rattanakosin. open daily from Wednesday-Sunday at 20 bath/Thai and 40 bath/foreigner.
